Ann van Messel is a Body Arts and Science International (BASI) Comprehensively Certified Pilates Instructor. Qualified on Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chairs, Barrels, Ped-a-Pul, Avalon, and various auxiliary equipment.
Ann’s journey with movement began during childhood as a gymnast, modern jazz dancer, and swimmer and moved to an all-round sports enthusiast (biking, hiking, paddling, skiing, climbing to name a few). Braced for scoliosis at the age of 12, Ann has had her share of back pain. Ann’s love for sport took her to Turkey and Israel guiding white water canoes and rafts, climbing limestone walls and instructing youth how to rappel into deep desert canyons. Yoga has always been a passion, so much so that Ann travelled to South India to experience life in an ashram. Finding pilates offered her a consistent way to get out of, and keep herself out of pain while moving her body and having fun. The scientific approach to identifying her own body’s specific strengths and weaknesses allowed her a pathway to better pain management, while allowing her the confidence and strength to play.
As a teacher Ann enjoys assisting her clients in finding their unique strengths and weaknesses, growing confidence in their abilities so they too can get out and play.
